After 38 years of business experience, I know for a fact that scalability is at the core of small
business success. Right-sizing a venture from the outset is close to a miracle. Keeping the
venture properly scaled so that it remains in synch and pace with the demands of the
marketplace can be akin to voodoo. InGear services have from the outset been designed to
support the constant need for a business to rapidly shrink and grow as required by its
operational needs and cash flow. Client feedback has directed how InGear Corporation
constantly improves its methods and services to remain relevant, effective, and provide
maximum value.

Small businesses depend on what is going on in the owner and staff's minds more than do large
businesses that have departments, analysts and boards of directors. That is not to say that
large business executives and managers do not use the power of individual thinking. The
difference is that most large business is driven by policies and procedures while most small
business is driven by passion, intellect, and gut instinct. For that reason, InGear services were
designed to provide an internal extension of the client's team; and, an augmentation of critical
thinking skills. The original InGear design that continues today is represented below.
I was not a business rookie when, in 2001, I began making serious mistakes that I have since
found to be very common to entrepreneurs. I already had significant business experience by
that time; having operated projects, ventures and companies throughout the US as well as
Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia. Not to say that hiccups had not
occurred, but I had experienced my share of success based on a strong work ethic.

Things were going well enough in 2001, that I decided that I would not have a problem adding to
my already overstretched agenda. After all, I had proven to myself that I thrived on stress. At
the time, I was CEO of a security and technology company in Virginia and Co-COO of the holding
company in Alaska that owned it. I was always adding new "test ventures" and decided to
purchase acreage in California for the purpose of subdivision and vineyard establishment.
These "big three" obligations meant that I needed to "answer the mail" in three states
separated just about as far as could be on US soil. All three required day-to-day attention.
Inattention to any of the three would have caused serious problems.

Once the burden of the subdivision hit, I found that I too have limits. I had screwed up and
needed help fast! I was convinced that the kind of support that I was looking for would be just
be one easy phone call away. On each call, I explained that I was looking for cost effective,
just-in-time, applied management-level support delivered by proven, seasoned professionals. I
stated that I was not looking for a consultant. I did not need someone to tell me what to do. I
needed a professional to become part of my team; assist me to find and apply solutions; and
then exit my accounts payable until I called them back again for the next task.

NO SUCH SERVICE EXISTED!

I was stunned! During my fifth call, or so, I found myself saying, "Why not? Don't you know that
every entrepreneur and micro-business owner would readily utilize just this sort of service?"
And then, it dawned on me. Small business owners do not have this type of service available to
them. The big guys get this type of service and it comes at a cost that "consultants" know that
small business owners cannot afford to pay.

I had found the need and InGear Corporation was designed to fill it in 2006:
Affordable executive-level business services for the little guy.
Welcome! It is my pleasure to introduce InGear
Corporation. I founded InGear in 2006 to assist
entrepreneurs, risk-takers and dream-makers with a
variety of thinking and performance skills. I greatly
admire this special group of professionals and
appreciate what they have brought to us all.

The InGear Corporation approach encompasses thinking, methods, processes, and tools that
provide the results needed by the client - in full, right now, and at a reasonable cost. The name,
"inGear", embodies our intent. The founding five objectives are:

  • We do not require a learning curve. We engage with you the moment we walk in your door.

  • We have developed our own processes for just about every service that we offer.

  • We do not intend to be different but we are different because we welcome the disruptive
atmosphere that dominates today's business environment. We believe that  the
phenomenon of disruption are not going anywhere soon. We promote the ability to quickly
adapt to change, both as a core strategy and as a significant point of differentiation.

  • We do not shy away from reality. Our processes have been developed through real-time
    trial, error and experience.

  • Our process are not static - they are always subject to improvement. Or clients are our
    best teachers.
BTW: the subdivision was completed and all lots sold by 2005; the
same year that my partner bottled our first Primitivo and Syrah
vintages from our vineyard.
